Recycling the Present for a More Sustainable Future

We share some useful information on how to treat Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) – household appliances, computers, mobile phones, lamps, among others.

As Mota-Engil ATIV assumes the Purpose of valuing assets, transforming the community for a more sustainable future, we share some useful information on how to treat Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) – household appliances, computers, mobile phones, lamps, among others.

Through ERP Portugal – Entidade Gestora de Resíduos, a European platform dedicated to the management of WEEE, companies can request the free collection of equipment at any national address (minimum 60 kg). However, if you are a final consumer, no collections are made, but it is possible to deliver your WEEE through 3 free channels:

  1. Electrical appliance and battery shops;
  2. Depositrão and Traga Pilhas;
  3. Reception Centres.

The waste is then transported to specific waste treatment units to be decontaminated, recycled and/or valorised.

The treatment of WEEE is somewhat complex since this equipment is made up of various types of materials and hazardous substances, which need to be removed and treated separately, especially heavy metals such as mercury, lead, nickel, cadmium, and lithium.

For more information about WEEE recycling visit the ERP Portugal website at eureciclo.pt.

Following the Mota-Engil ATIV Purpose – Valuing Assets, transforming the community for a more sustainable future – the IT department gathered several WEEE resulting from its activity, having collected over 300 kg of waste for recycling/recovery by ERP Portugal.

It is for us a goal and always with great satisfaction, the contribution to the sustainability of our planet!
