To mark and promote Biodiversity, Mota-Engil ATIV developed an activity with the students of the Basic School of Chãs de Tavares and the Primary School of Matados, which consisted of building bird nesting boxes and placing them in the trees of those parishes.
This activity, framed within the aspects of Biodiversity and community work of the ATIV_CARBON grouped project, took place in Corvaceira and had the support and partnership of the Union of Parishes of Tavares (Chãs, Várzea, and Travanca) and CERVAS (Center for Ecology, Recovery, and Surveillance of Wild Animals).
Involving local communities whenever possible, Mota-Engil ATIV not only aims to promote forest restoration, contributing to the improvement of biodiversity, nature conservation, and sustainable business development, but also intends to stimulate citizen science and raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity for our planet.
The installation of artificial nests for birds will increase the availability of nesting sites, and since many of the birds that occupy these nests are also insectivorous, they contribute not only to the conservation of local biodiversity but also to maintaining greater sanitation of plant communities.
In addition to placing nests in existing trees, the students also helped to release a tawny owl that was at the wildlife recovery center in Gouveia, managed by CERVAS
The International Day for Biological Diversity, which is marked on May 22, aims to alert the global population to the urgency and importance of conserving biological diversity, for the balance of natural ecosystems and the survival of species.
