BIOCHAR in the Spotlight at the Montado Technical Days

At the event, strategies were presented and discussed not only for the adoption of agricultural practices adapted to climate change.

Mota-Engil ATIV was present at the Montado Technical Days, held in Coruche on April 9th, which brought together over 70 participants to discuss, debate, and reflect on creating added value in the montado.

At the event, strategies were presented and discussed not only for the adoption of agricultural practices adapted to climate change through the Climate Farm Demo project, but also mechanisms for adapting European Union funding policies to the reality of the montado through the MIXED project.

Framed within a dynamic of promoting value creation in this ecosystem through the carbon market, the potential of the montado in carbon sequestration was discussed by Professor Joana Amaral Paulo from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA). Additionally, the characteristics of existing markets, as well as their opportunities and challenges, were explored by Professor Paulo Canaveira from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).

For Mota-Engil ATIV, this is a very important topic. In this context, José Pinheiro from the Carbon Management Department provided practical insights on Biochar production. He also participated in an open panel where the importance of carbon projects in increasing the resilience of these ecosystems was explored, as well as the significance and viability of Biochar as an integral part of them.

The event was an exceptional opportunity to debate emerging tools, such as carbon markets, and to discuss policies and environmental best practices, as well as market opportunities, where Biochar will undoubtedly prove to be a fundamental tool in addressing climate change.
