Mota-Engil ATIV successfully completed the renovation of the final sewer pipe at the aerial crossing over the Rio Velho (Choupal), for the client Águas do Centro Litoral (AdCL). This intervention was essential for the sanitation system of the city of Coimbra.
The project restored the structural and functional conditions of this essential infrastructure, ensuring its longevity and enhancing the quality of service provided to the population. It is worth noting that the work was carried out without ever compromising the normal operation of the existing infrastructure.

he project involved the complete replacement of a large-diameter steel pipeline (DN1500), approximately 85 meters long, responsible for conveying wastewater from Coimbra’s urban center to the Choupal WWTP.
The pipeline was in poor condition, making its renewal necessary to ensure the continuity of the hydraulic system, increase its resilience, and reduce operational and maintenance impacts on the outfall.

Due to the sensitive location of the intervention, in the heart of the Choupal National Forest, a protected area, Mota-Engil ATIV carried out the work with high environmental safety standards, particularly in the rigorous implementation and monitoring of alternative drainage systems to prevent any ecological risk.

For Mota-Engil ATIV, this project is another example of its technical capability in rehabilitating critical infrastructure and its commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions.
With this investment in environmental sustainability, AdCL and Mota-Engil ATIV reinforce their joint mission to enhance water resources, protect ecosystems, and improve the quality of life for the population.
