A civil construction project at Empor Spirits.

Mota-Engil ATIV was responsible for improving approximately 450m² of the roofing area of the Empor Spirits company (offices and warehouse) to extend the building’s lifespan and provide greater comfort for its users.

Empor Spirits is a 100% Portuguese company dedicated to the exclusive representation and distribution of a vast and diverse portfolio of internationally recognized premium beverage brands for over a decade.

The building, approximately 30 years old, had been showing maintenance needs in the civil construction area, particularly with water infiltration at various points inside the building and the presence of an asbestos roof.

In this regard, Mota-Engil ATIV’s main intervention was the removal of the asbestos roofing, which was carried out in compliance with all current safety regulations. To safeguard the health of the workers, the waste was sent to a licensed waste operator for proper disposal.

The commercialization of materials containing asbestos (ACM) has been prohibited since 2005. However, it is not mandatory to remove asbestos that has already been applied unless it is deteriorated and/or its exposure poses a health risk.

The project was carried out in phases to minimize the impact of asbestos removal. Additionally, the opportunity was taken to waterproof the roof to address rainwater infiltration, install a sandwich panel roof, and repair leaks in the skylight.

This was a challenging project with clear benefits for the Client, providing a greater sense of safety and comfort when moving within their facilities.
