70 children from the Gândara-Mar School Grouping answered the call from the Cantanhede Municipality to participate in an educational and environmental awareness initiative at the Cantanhede Dunes Forest Perimeter, in the parish of Tocha.
This action aimed to make known the reforestation work being carried out by Mota-Engil ATIV in that location, severely affected by the fire of October 2017, and to alert students to the importance of forests as a strong element of environmental balance.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2024 and aims to reforest 1,503 hectares of the forest perimeter of the dunes of Cantanhede, with a view to its recovery not only from an environmental, but also from a touristic and social point of view.
This initiative was promoted by the Cantanhede City Hall and had the support and participation of several partners, including Mota-Engil ATIV, which helped the students to literally get their hands in the dirt by planting stone pines.
Always attentive and dynamic, the enthusiasm, commitment and motivation of the children was contagious!
“For us it is always a privilege to have these actions, to strengthen the relationship with nature and to show the importance of reforestation for the environment,” said Hugo Oliveira, coordinator of the municipality’s Civil Protection, adding that the intention is to attract the community to a greater participation and awareness for this kind of initiatives.
Hugo Oliveira also highlighted the importance of the active participation of all players involved, and in this case, “Mota-Engil ATIV, which is carrying out the reforestation of the area, is a key partner, always available to collaborate and with a great contribution to the implementation of these actions.
We know that our forest is fundamental in mitigating climate change. And it is with this reality in mind and to revive the burnt areas and prevent more similar disasters from happening that Mota-Engil ATIV provides deforestation and reforestation services, adapted to the needs of each Customer.
