In the current context, organizations have been prioritizing sustainability as a key commitment regarding the generation of value from physical assets. Considering the carbon neutrality targets by 2050, this places greater pressure on the efficient lifecycle management of assets.<\/p>\n\n
Based on a case study that focused on analyzing the lifecycle of the main technical systems and equipment of a large 16-year-old performance building (554 assets assessed by a team of specialized technicians), the objective was to evaluate the impact of lifecycle management options on the carbon emission profile and their contribution to a more sustainable operation.<\/p>\n\n
A climate control system installed in an iconic performance center was selected, which is critical to the building’s proper functioning and the comfort of its users. The impact of lifecycle management options on reducing carbon emissions was isolated and analyzed.<\/p>\n\n
After analyzing the simulation results, it was found that the proposed solution resulted in a significant annual savings for the facility, also reflecting a substantial reduction in its carbon footprint (28%).<\/p>\n\n
The study was developed by Ana Catarina Gon\u00e7alves from the Energy Coordination Department, Susana Moreda from the Maintenance Management Department, and Tiago Fernandes from the Specialized Services Division.<\/p>\n\n
Regarding the topic \u201cLegal Obligations in Building Maintenance Management\u201d and the constant need to fulfill routines\/tasks, verifications, inspections, and tests, which constitute a set of \u201clegal obligations,\u201d compliance with these obligations should be integrated into asset management, particularly through maintenance software. This integration helps avoid non-compliance with legal obligations and consequent fines.<\/p>\n\n
These obligations are reflected in legal instruments (Technical Guides, Orders, Ordinances, Laws, Regulatory Decrees, Decree-Laws, and EU Regulations, with direct application to national legislation), all of which are mandatory..<\/p>\n\n
