ATIV Carbon promotes Forestry, Reforestation and Biodiversity

Under the ATIV Carbon brand, the first Forest Carbon Sequestration Project was kicked off, to be developed in the locality of Corvaceira, Chãs de Tavares in Mangualde.

In an area of 87 hectares, the first of more than 72,500 trees have been planted with an expected total CO2eq sequestration of 68,085 tonnes. Another 100 hectares are being prepared for a second phase.

The Corvaceira Project was presented on 6 December and was attended by various government and local authorities, as well as the project’s partners and other official bodies.

The Mangualde municipality was delighted to join the project, which “is an example of how investing in revitalising the forest and its biodiversity is the path to a green economy that guarantees the sustainability of the entire ecosystem. This is an aggregating project that has involved the whole community and deserves to be extended to the whole territory.”

With these projects, Mota-Engil ATIV wants to promote forest restoration, contributing to the improvement of biodiversity, nature conservation and sustainable business development, involving local communities whenever possible.

For the management of Mota-Engil ATIV, this is an important milestone in the company’s history. “This project, in particular, has these unique characteristics in the national context because it is based on the best practices worldwide and has the undisputed certification of a certifying organisation in the voluntary carbon market, which is VERRA.

” Strongly committed to the roadmap towards carbon neutrality, contributing with solutions to support Partners and Clients on the journey towards decarbonisation, Mota-Engil ATIV has already planted more than 1,000 hectares of national forest and aims to reach 5,000 by 2026, foreseeing the sequestration of 4 million tonnes of CO2eq over the next 40 years.
